She provides services to adolescents and adults with issues such as maternal mental health, including perinatal and postnatal mood disorders (pregnancy related mental health), anxiety, depression, trauma, substance abuse, family members of substance abuse, and LGBTQIA+.

Hello, my name is Amy Carlson.

I am pleased to introduce myself as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Master Addiction Counselor, living and working in our beautiful city of Fairbanks, Alaska. Since July of 2012, I have had the joy of calling Alaska home—fulfilling a lifelong dream to live in a place where the mountains and wilderness are never far away. I’m originally from East Idaho and have been practicing social work for over 23 years.

I started my journey in social work while earning my Bachelor’s degree from Idaho State University, where I worked in residential treatment with adolescents. After graduation in 2005, I stepped into a role in psychosocial rehabilitation, supporting children and teens in their homes, schools, and communities. I had the privilege of spending 5–10 hours a week with each child—helping them navigate life at home with parents, manage schoolwork, fulfill community obligations, and build healthy relationships with peers. One of the most enduring lessons I took from that time was the power of creativity and art in healing. I still use that insight in my work today, helping clients explore hobbies and creative outlets as part of their therapeutic journey.

After earning my Master’s in Social Work from Walla Walla University in 2007, I broadened my practice to include adults, couples, and families, while continuing my focus on youth. In 2012, I moved to Alaska to work in residential treatment with adolescents, and eventually found my calling in private practice. For the last 11 years, I have supported clients of all ages and walks of life—and I’m proud to continue that work now at GE Family Services, a division of Partners Behavioral Health Corporation, where I see adolescents and adults in person in Fairbanks and via telehealth across Alaska.

I also have the honor of serving as the Director of Compliance for Greentree Behavioral Health, a division of Partners Behavioral Health Corporation. In this leadership role, I support our teams in upholding the highest standards of ethics, quality, and accountability. I work closely with both clinical and administrative staff to ensure that our services are not only legally compliant, but also centered on compassion, safety, and integrity. I see this role as an extension of my mission as a therapist—to advocate for systems that support healing, equity, and meaningful care.

Clinically, I have a strong interest in maternal mental health, including perinatal and postnatal mood disorders (pregnancy-related mental health), trauma, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and support for families impacted by addiction. I am also deeply affirming of LGBTQIA+ individuals and strive to offer a welcoming and inclusive space for everyone. My approach is eclectic and client-centered, drawing from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), mindfulness, art therapy, play therapy, motivational interviewing, and Brainspotting. I enjoy the creative challenge of finding what resonates most with each client, and tailoring my approach to meet their needs and goals.

I’ve also made it a personal commitment to continually deepen my understanding of cultural differences and systemic barriers, and to do everything I can to bridge those gaps in my practice and leadership.

Outside of work, I’m someone who loves the outdoors—I spend as much time as I can hiking, camping, and skiing. In the winter, you’ll often find me sledding with my young children. I’m an avid reader and gamer, and I especially enjoy games like World of Warcraft, Hogwarts Legacy, and Fortnite. I also have a passion for crafting—resin work, beadwork, sewing, journaling, painting—you name it. My creative hobbies often make their way into my therapy room, where I find they help clients connect, express themselves, and heal.

Whether I’m supporting clients one-on-one or helping lead the way behind the scenes, my lifelong goal remains the same: to empower others with the tools they need to live full, meaningful, and joyful lives.
