Counseling Intern
Callie Akins, a Counseling Intern at GE Family Services, sees children under 12 in person in Anchorage and via telehealth across Alaska. She specializes in anxiety, communication disorders, learning disabilities, and neurodivergence.

My name is Callie, and I am a clinical intern working at GE Family Services, a division of Partners Behavioral Health Corporation! I am a lifelong Alaskan with a passion for working with children and their families. I am a certified teacher and Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant. I am currently earning my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling through Walden University. I love working with children and the people who raise them. I strive to create a fun, creative, and safe space. I take cues from the children I serve and follow wherever their hearts and minds lead. I believe children do best in a supportive and nonjudgmental environment.  I specialize in working with children under 12 who experience anxiety, neurodivergence (Autism, ADHD, etc), social skills struggles, communication disorders, dyslexia and other learning disabilities.

I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Alaska, Anchorage, along with a minor in Speech-Language Pathology, in 2018.  I worked in the Anchorage School District as both a teacher and in Speech Pathology. I also spent time at a private clinic as a reading specialist for children with dyslexia and communication disorders.

Due to my past experiences I am especially passionate about working with children who struggle to communicate. If your child has an AAC device, autism, a stutter, or apraxia we can work together to support communication, build confidence, and address the frustration, anxiety, and other behaviors that come along with communication struggles. I am also passionate about working with children who struggle with learning disabilities. I have seen throughout the years how much that can weigh on a child’s heart and would love to support some of that weight.

When I am not working you can find me curled up with a cup of chocolate milk, reading, or watching a cozy British mystery.
